A MOGUL (O MULTI BILIONÁRIO em inglês)
A MOGUL
(by Paulo Rebelo)
I woke up as billionaire.
Do not imagine that I’m delirious or hallucinating,
That I really lie under rivers of money
Or that my bonds have valued 1000% in the stock exchanges around the world.
Yes, I am a billionaire and much more than that, but not as most men want and could envy me
And even kill me,
Seduced by yellowishness of gold
By the translucent purity of the diamonds that glitters,
By the green emerald
Or the turquoise blue of the sapphire.
All blind and anxious to possess goods the materials of this world,
Have everyone at one´s feet.
My fortune is another!
I do not need to keep it in a locker.
I do not need to hide it under the bed,
Nor don´t I need to bury it somewhere in the backyard,
Where could they suspect that there would be my dollars at the end of the rainbow,
Imagining that when I died, I would take them away with me to my grave under a gigantic pyramid, full of labyrinths with no exits,
Demonstrating to all and to eternity that I had been the richest of all man!
No, it’s nothing like that!
For I do not need to put my fortune in the name of a straw man,
I do not need police escorts or security cars,
Nor bodyguards!
I do not even need to be armed!
No bulletproof vest I have.
My car is not armored.
I’m not afraid of being kidnapped.
My wealth is another!
It is from another dimension
The divine size.
It’s the kind that advertises to everyone,
I exhibit in public square
My sincere rethoric in the SPEAKER´S CORNER.
And on posters on the avenues,
Shouting loudly through SPEAKERS!
For it is of the kind that I do not omit a moment of my joy,
That flows through my skin
That explodes in my chest
Impossible to be contained!
My state of mind,
My happiness open to the world,
Not stored in banks or museums as if it were something rare.
It’s just mine.
It is non-transferable.
It is inalienable.
Impossible to be stolen!
And the more I speak of my happiest
The more I rest in pure joy,
From that priceless fortune I built beside the woman, she who one day under the blessings of GOD chose to be mine, the cradle and breeding place of my treasure that I hold deep in my heart;
my family!
